We offer several internship and training opportunities for undergraduates and graduates, in both legal and related disciplines.

Internships

Structured Internship Programme (SIP)

An intensive immersive 4-week programme for final year and post-final year law students. This programme runs annually in July and is designed to introduce practice skills and to provide an introduction to the Malaysian legal framework relevant to legal practice. Intake is limited to 20 students a year.

Features:

  • Structured lectures on selected topics and arranged visits to related places such as the Palace of Justice and other courts, the Attorney General’s Chambers, Parliament, prisons and selected government agencies
  • Early exposure to the legal practice through tailored mini-assignments with our lawyers and Trainee Associates
  • Certificates of Completion presented on successful completion of the programme.

 

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have excellent academic records and interpersonal skills and be very fluent in both oral and written English
  • Both Malaysian and foreign law students can apply.

Short Term Internship Programme

This is a 2-week programme structured for first and second year degree students to provide them with an understanding of how their law studies fit into the realities of law practice.

Long Term Internship Programme

This is designed for post-second year degree students with the aim of introducing them to the lifestyles and pressures of practising law. The programme runs over 4 weeks or more.

 

ZICOlaw Vietnam Internship Programme

Requirements:

  • Final year students or students in the process of preparing their theses (preferably students of high quality classes or whose grade points are excellent)
  • Good knowledge in Law on Enterprises, Law on Investment, Law on Land, Law on Real Estate Business, Law on Housing and other investment, infrastructure construction related laws
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing
  • Good communication skill
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Diligence, carefulness and good sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and work in a high-pressure working environment

Benefits:

  • Internship period: 3-6 months in accordance with the arrangements between ZICOlaw Vietnam and the Interns
  • Monthly internship allowances
  • Opportunity to be trained directly by the well-experienced foreign and Vietnamese lawyers and work in a professional working environment which deals with specialised legal issues in specific cases
  • Opportunity to become official employees for the Interns who completed their internship period with excellent evaluation

Graduate Opportunities

Trainee Associate Programme (TAP)

ZICOlaw is the only law firm in Malaysia that offers a uniquely structured TAP designed to guide Trainee Associates (TAs) through their pupillage to hone their skills to compete effectively in today’s globalised market.

The TAP runs in tandem with the 9-month pupillage that is mandatory for those who wish to practice as Advocates & Solicitors in West Malaysia.

Features:

  • Our TAs get hands-on experience working directly with partners and lawyers on cutting-edge deals and cross border transactions
  • Dedicated training sessions are conducted twice a week, focusing on substantive law and complementary skills such as creative thinking, opinion-writing, negotiation skills, plain English drafting, project management and teamwork
  • Unlimited access to knowledge resources and guidance. We recognise that this is fundamental in the TAs career development, and as such, we invest substantially in knowledge management
  • The progress and welfare of TAs are closely monitored by their respective pupil masters, our full time knowledge management and training partner as well as a special committee of partners
  • Our conducive working and learning environment includes purpose-built rooms with dedicated work stations and personal computers with internet access
  • In terms of financial gains, our TAP is acknowledged as one of the highest paying in Malaysia
  • Individual attention can be given as places are limited to 12 trainees only at any one time.

Requirements:

Candidates must:

  • Have an excellent academic record (minimum of second upper class LLB degree or equivalent), and have completed the English Bar Vocational Course or obtained the Malaysian Certificate of Legal Practice (unless exempted)
  • Be fluent in both oral and written English
  • Be driven to excel and show strong leadership and communications skills, demonstrated through outstanding extracurricular activities or unique post degree experience.

Upon completion of the TAP and call to the Malaysian Bar, the TAs who excel will be offered positions as Associates in our firm.  With that, your opportunities are endless.  Your professional development will be further enhanced when you work on our ground breaking deals and international transactions. You may also have an opportunity under our international secondment scheme to be posted to one of our overseas offices.
