Masterclass on Employment Contract Law and Seniority Indemnity Recap

On 17 October 2019, our Labour practice group led by Senior Partner Matthew Rendall and Senior Associates Phirum Ol and Liew Shan Berg explained the fundamentals of employment contract law and seniority indemnity at a Masterclass organized by HRINC Cambodia with the support of Young Entrepreneur Association of Cambodia (YEAC) in Phnom Penh. Building on the success of the Masterclass held in Siem Reap in September and upon numerous requests, the Masterclass was conducted again in Phnom Penh at Sokha Residence Phnom Penh with more than 30 people attended.

While the law has been in place for over a year, many HR practitioners and employers still find themselves struggling with the law in practice. This Masterclass focused on opening the floor to answer all questions related to Seniority Indemnity and offered tools and exercises for the participants to practice. The day started with an opening remark by the President of YEAC, Mr. Kouch Pheng and Matthew, who both highlighted the importance of labour compliance when doing business in Cambodia. Participants were highly engaged throughout the event, asking important questions and developing their knowledge through practice exercises.
