ZICO Law Secures Deal of the Year Awards at ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2019

We are pleased to announce that ZICO Law member firms have secured two prestigious deal of the year awards at the recent Asian Legal Business (ALB) SE Asia Law Awards 2019. Zaid Ibrahim & Co. (a member of ZICO Law) and SokSiphana&associates (a member of ZICO Law) jointly received the Premium M&A Deal of the Year award whilst Zaid Ibrahim & Co. was also recognised in the Islamic Finance Deal of the Year category.

The Premium M&A Deal of the Year award was in recognition of our Malaysian and Cambodian office’s involvement in Grab’s acquisition of Uber’s Southeast Asian business. Our Malaysian office advised on the proposed asset acquisition while our Cambodian office also advised on the transaction itself as well as assisting with employee transfers from Uber to Grab. With over 21 law firms involved across the regions, the cross-border M&A transaction required a high level of cooperation with various law firms and consolidation of various jurisdictions across Southeast Asia.

Zaid Ibrahim & Co also received The Islamic Finance Deal of the Year award in recognition of our involvement in Cindai Capital’s landmark issuance of exchangeable trust certificates. The unique structure of the transaction enables the issuance of Shariah-compliant exchangeable Sukuk where the underlying shares may not be Shariah-compliant.

These award wins highlight the depth and breadth of work that ZICO Law lawyers regularly engage in Southeast Asia and are a testament to our commitment to deliver quality leading-edge legal services in a timely manner, and for putting our clients first. We thank our clients for their continued support, and will strive to maintain our position as the premier go-to law network in ASEAN.
