ZICO Law Myanmar Welcomes Former Deputy Minister of Finance as Executive Chairman

ZICO Holdings Inc. (“ZICO” and together with its subsidiaries and associated companies, the “Group”) is pleased to announce the appointment of the former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Maung Maung Thein, as the Executive Chairman of ZICOlaw Myanmar Ltd (“ZICO Law Myanmar”), the Group’s subsidiary, in Yangon, with effect from 1 September 2017. This new appointment is part of ZICO’s continuing effort to support the growth of ZICO Law Myanmar.

With over four decades of experience in both the private and public sectors, Dr Maung Maung Thein has represented the Ministry of Finance on subject matters including international relations, state-owned banking and also non-banking financial sectors. His achievements include the establishment and liberalisation of Myanmar’s insurance sector and the historic commencement of the Yangon Stock Exchange in 2016. In addition, Dr Maung Maung Thein is widely known for his work in international affairs, and his specialisations for both banking and non-banking financial sectors.

Dr Maung Maung Thein has held positions in entities as diverse as the Housing Authority, the National Shipping Line, and the National Insurance Company. He was also appointed Chairman, Executive Committee and Board Member of numerous reputable professional bodies. He has published six books, including a notable textbook on insurance law and written over 350 articles published both locally and internationally.

Dr Maung Maung Thein, as Executive Chairman, will lead ZICO Law Myanmar and will be supported by a team of Myanmar and foreign lawyers in Yangon. ZICO Law Myanmar advises on a wide range of matters including Corporate Commercial, Mergers and Acquisitions, Projects, Infrastructure and Utilities and Real Estate. ZICO Law Myanmar is also part of the ZICO Law network of law firms (“ZICO Law Network”) in the ASEAN region.

With Dr Maung Maung Thein taking the helm as ZICO Law Myanmar’s Executive Chairman, Mr Samuel P. Britton, Managing Partner at ZICO Law Myanmar, will be taking on a new role as Of Counsel to ZICO Law Myanmar with effect from 1 September 2017.  The appointment of Mr Britton as Of Counsel will allow ZICO Law Myanmar to continue to tap on his over 20 years’ experience in dealing with a wide range of business transactional matters for multinational corporate clients and high networth individuals.
