ZICO Law Myanmar commenced operations in early 2013 and currently covers a wide range of practices such as Corporate Commercial, Mergers and Acquisitions, Projects, Infrastructure and Utilities and Real Estate.

ZICO Law Myanmar is helmed by Dr Maung Maung Thein as Executive Chairman. He is a former Deputy Minister of Finance and has over 40 years’ experience working in the public and private sectors. A lawyer by training, he was instrumental in the establishment and liberalisation of the Myanmar Insurance market and the historic commencement of the Yangon Stock Exchange in 2016. He is also well known for his work in international affairs, and his specializations include banking and non-banking financial sectors.

The Yangon office is supported by a team of local Myanmar lawyers and also a number of regional secondees lawyers seconded from the ZICO Law network. Being part of this network has, enabled ZICO Law Myanmar to establish itself as a leading local firm in Myanmar, supported by a network of other member firms providing legal services in ASEAN.

On 1 December 2022, KPMG and ZICO Law entered into an agreement under which a number of law firms and teams from the ZICO Law network have joined the KPMG network of firms.

The deal will see more than 275 lawyers join over 2,900 legal professionals in the KPMG global organization, creating a significant legal footprint across Asia. It will offer legal services and solutions, a globally connected legal services platform, and specialists who work with leading technology providers to modernize legal functions across organizations.
