Malaysia Strengthens Intellectual Property Regime

In the twilight of 2021 amid the easing pandemonium of COVID 19, the Malaysian Parliament passed a trio of intellectual property legislation, namely, the Patents (Amendment) Bill 2021, the Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2021 and the Geographical Indications Bill 2021. These Bills are aimed at enhancing the landscape of IP protection in the country by strengthening their enforcement, and bringing the standards of protection and practice to be in line with the country’s obligations under various international treaties.

Announcement

On 1 December 2022, KPMG and ZICO Law entered into an agreement under which a number of law firms and teams from the ZICO Law network have joined the KPMG network of firms.

The deal will see more than 275 lawyers join over 2,900 legal professionals in the KPMG global organization, creating a significant legal footprint across Asia. It will offer legal services and solutions, a globally connected legal services platform, and specialists who work with leading technology providers to modernize legal functions across organizations.
