COVID-19 Outbreak declared as a Non-Natural National Disaster
On 13 April 2020, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, issued a Presidential Decree No. 12 of 2020 on the Stipulation as a Non-Natural National Disaster of the Spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) (“Decree”). The stipulation is made with a consideration of the great impact on the social-economic aspects throughout Indonesia and the increasing number of infected people.
The Decree in summary states that:
- COVID-19 outbreak is declared as a non-natural national disaster;
- the management of disaster will be carried out by the Task Force for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Mitigation through synergy between ministries/agencies and local governments; and
- all Governors, Regents, and Mayors, as the head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Mitigation in each respective regions, are urged to set policy in line with the policy of the Central Government.
