Financial Times Ranks ZICO Law Among Most Innovative Law Firms in Asia-Pacific Region

Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyer 2018 rankings has named ZICO Law the 12th Most Innovative Law firm in the Asia-Pacific region and commended the network in the category of Business of Law: Talent, Strategy, and Changing Behaviours for developing an integrated approach to engage its people across all 10 ASEAN countries in which it operates.  Regional Managing Partner for ZICO Law network, Hanim Hamzah was also recognised as one of the ten pioneers of new legal thinking in the Asia-Pacific region.

Citing ZICO Law’s presence in all 10 ASEAN countries as a key differentiator, Financial Times also highlighted the network’s commitment towards diversity and empowerment of women in the work place as well as network wide initiatives aimed at training and developing home grown thought leaders with a truly ASEAN perspective.

Additionally, ZICO Law members firms were highlighted in several categories:

  • SokSiphana&associates were highly commended in the category of Legal Expertise: Accessing new markets & capital (Asia-Pacific), for establishing a new framework for the transport industry in Cambodia, opening the market to Uber and other ride-sharing services. SokSiphana&associates were also ranked as the 22nd most innovative law firm in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • In the category of Legal Expertise: Accessing new markets & capital (Asia-Pacific), Zaid Ibrahim & Co were commended for 2 deals, including advising Malayan Banking Berhad on its inaugural panda bond issuance, and advising Alibaba during the creation of its first electronic World Trading Platform hub outside of China. The firm also received a commendation in the category of Legal Expertise: Driving Value for their role in advising Quantum Solar Park in the issuance of a RM1bn green SRI sukuk, a shariah compliant bond, in order to build three solar power plants in Malaysia.
  • Roosdiono & Partners were commended in the category of Business of Law: New business & service delivery models, for their work developing an in-house sharia consultancy service for clients, as well as advising the Government of Indonesia on Islamic hedging.

On 1 December 2022, KPMG and ZICO Law entered into an agreement under which a number of law firms and teams from the ZICO Law network have joined the KPMG network of firms.

The deal will see more than 275 lawyers join over 2,900 legal professionals in the KPMG global organization, creating a significant legal footprint across Asia. It will offer legal services and solutions, a globally connected legal services platform, and specialists who work with leading technology providers to modernize legal functions across organizations.
